Read Rulfo's "El Llano en llamas", Carlos Fuentes's "Aura" and Juan José Arreola's "Confabulario" and "Bestiario". If you are looking for poets, read Gilberto Owen, Rosario Castellanos, Octavio Paz, Xavier Villaurrutia and José Gorostiza. And once you are ready for some hardcore poetry, read Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz.
