I think this chart should be consigned to history. No Dworkin, de Beauvoir or Fanon? Come the fuck on. The creator of the chart obviously doesn't think that feminism or postcolonialism are worthy schools of thought but to ignore them entirely when making a chart about leftist thought is criminal.

I dropped it when everything started getting better.
I sort of regret not finishing it, but then again I feel like the moral of the story was pretty clear at that point, and the last couple hundred pages would just be fleshing that point out.
Also I was like 14 when I did this, and I don't really feel the existential strain you need to get into his works anymore.

I don't think there is a Faulkner one honestly. I'll recommend an order if anyone's interested:

Soldiers' Pay (if you want to see his development. I also think it's a great novel.)
As I Lay Dying
The Sound and the Fury
Sanctuary
Light in August
The Wild Palms
Absalom, Absalom!

Optional:
The Unvanquished
Go Down, Moses
The Snopes Trilogy
Pylon

nah dood. you just don't realize how fucked this book is. it's harry porridge on crack. it's twiggylite on fucking heroin scrubbing the floors with your grandmother's toothbrush while shitting octarine. it's the bane of existence, and everything that /lit/ is against as a collective being.

an excerpt:
The nurse sighed. She was short, wide, and had a tattoo of a snake up her right calf that showed through her white nurse stockings. She spent four hours of every workday massaging preemie babies, her hands threaded through ports in a Lucite incubator, like she was handling a radioactive spark in there. She talked to them, coaxed them, told them how special they were, and felt their hearts fluttering in chests no bigger than a balled-up pair of sweat socks. She cried over every one, and believed that her tears and touch poured a bit of her own life into the tiny bodies, which was just fine with her. She could spare it. She had been a neonatal nurse for twenty years and had never so much as raised her voice to a new father. “There’s no goddamn tail, you doofus! Look!” She pulled down the blanket and aimed baby Sophie’s bottom at him like she might unleash a fusillade of weapons-grade poopage such as the guileless Beta Male had never seen.

I just like to look at them, even if I never intend to read what is listed it tells me a bit about the books an author has written and someone's opinion on them. Also, having a starting point and order put out helps my fear of making a mistake about anything and frees me from the responsibility of having to make a choice that could possibly be the wrong one. I mean, if I never try I can never fail right? If I only listen to others I never have to feel responsible for my faults. I mean, it's not my fault things go bad, I was just listening to them! I'm still smart and could be successful if it wasn't for everyone else. That's been working for me so far hasn't it?

I did last year. It was solid, but was a little longer than it needed to be. I liked the ocean scene the most. Apart from that, I only remember a few fragments of it.

The ocean scene was a brief respite from the grief, boredom, and pain of life. Funnily enough, it was sort of a respite from the grief, boredom, and pain of the book. Ofc it's the only part I remember.

The answer I got from this book was basically not to give a fuck about anything, which isn't a good enough answer for me

I bought it, read most of it, and was disappointed in how entry level it was. I'm kinda dissapointed with /lit/ because I bought it at their recommendation.
>>
>>8039733
i think it's pretty good. my simplified one would be:
>hamlet
>cymbeline
>tempest
>king lear
then, after king lear, either:
>julius caesar
>antony and cleo
>the henriad (i actually started with henry iv, 1)
or:
>othello
>macbeth
>merchant of venice

the chart is a little flippant, but pretty solid.

i'm a little surprised that "ethan frome" isn't on here. to me, that was comfy-core to the max.

do you have a superficial interest in drugs? fear and loathing.

are you paranoid that your best friends are out to get you? a scanner darkly.

do you value drugs as a way to define reality and search for the limits of one's ego in the face of god? the three stigmata of palmer eldritch.

You're supposed to read all of it, with an imposed dialectic between The Bondage of Will and On the Genealogy of Morals, as interposed within the hermetic framework you should have gleaned from Agrippa and Chamber of Secrets. Otherwise the work simply doesn't make sense

What do you guys think about Terence McKenna? Are his books enlightening?

to a large extent the creator of that chart forgot that the older the poet =/= the better their poetry

also trashing poets that most people usually start with just because they are 20th century poets and are not writing "traditional poetry" is just plain stupid

whitman is used twice
