Is there a book equivalent of this?

Verses 11-32 in the 15th chapter of the book of Luke

I mean outside of the source material that influenced it

How come almost every film that ''professional film criticism'' bashes ends up being enjoyable at the very least?

The Pilgrim's Progress

Malick is a hack

99% of people who use the word "hack" have no idea what it means

The Rider-Waite Tarot is the full version. Fair warning though, it's not exactly a book.

Is this movie any good? Tree of Life is one of my all times favourites but after seeing the reviews I'm hesitant to watch this one. /lit/, tell me it's good, I trust your patrician judgment.

yeah its a unique experience

Sure, if you enjoy objectively gaudy and embarrassing films like The Tree Of Life, more of the same will be right up your street.

I haven't read it, but the summary of Taipei makes it seem like it would be a good fit.

I was about to recommend Bret Easton Ellis's work but I realize that his stuff is about lives that are bound by rampant consumerism and yuppie lifestyle, not lives that have been thrown off course by it.

It's quite literally the exact same style as Tree of Life except applied to the subject of a distraught screenwriter.

Most of the complaints about the movie was that Malick had failed to deviate from the ToL style, they clearly don't realize that this IS Malick's style.
