Pretty good actually, it's basically a clever self-aware subversion of fantasy tropes and then of genre fiction in general, while also being interesting reads and an interesting setting in their own right. Fun on several levels.

Anyone remember that Daikatana demo review by Lowtax?

Is it really? Or is it just a fantasy story with more swearing and fucking?

I wouldn't say it's quite as genius as >>7987850 says, but it's definitely not bad. If you're into fantasy, give it a shot. Last Wish is short stories, so read a few and decide if you like it.

Pretty much. There's a underlying irony and subversion in the short stories that play with tropes from folklore and legends. There's a great passage near the end of one of the stories where Geralt and Dandelion are chilling by a campfire and Dandelion is playing his lute and the story describes how a passing werewolf hears the music and just listens to it instead of trying to kill them or anything. I feel like what Sapkowski is good at is finding the humanity and depth in all the generic fantasy stuff, rather than creating expansive innovative new worlds.
The core series of books loses it's focus a bit though, the main storyline meanders through a bunch of weird monster of the week type stuff that isn't quite as good as any of the stuff in the short stories.
