that's a stupid assignment since christianity and communism are the same thing (communism with a different metaphysics of course) while Islam and Judaism had more role in undermining it, but what really happened was communism became its opposite in display of dialectics, baby!

Communism vs Christianity, which is more retarded?

Christianity played a big role in many European so called Communist states.

It's only propaganda that says that they were anti religion. Same with saying they were anti nationalism. They carved out new countries (and regions within countries) just to satisfy certain peoples.

So if you can't come up with anything mainstream talking points, then go with arguments that are against mainstream.
>>
>>7945136
That's fucking easy
Just talk about the individualism that is inherent within Protestant Christianity and how that shaped America and thus contributed to the fall of communism
Just bring everything back to America

The purpose of an undergraduate writing assignment is less to evaluate your /original, rigorous/ skill as a writer, and more to 1) check that you don't cheat via plagarism (one of the very few things that academics can universally agree is evil), 2) can put together a cogent piece which uses a few themes using citations, and 3) use some rhetoric.

You can literally bullshit at the undergraduate level anon, and if you make it sound decent and get your sources right you can get a B or even an A if the prof likes your i-de-o-logy. Just don't make the mistake of gambling on plagarism.

I can remember a history survey where someone else got caught, and the two profs (a joint effort) spent the better part of an hour laying into "this person", who was in the room. They really really really hate that shit. I didn't notice anyone's body language shrinking near me, so the person must not have been close to me, kek

>fall of Communism
Interestingly I was just talking to a Chinese woman and trying to explain to her how we in the west think communism has failed. She was really quite incredulous that we could think China was not communist today. She suggested politely that we should try to move past Cold War stereotypes.

OP all you need to know is that the Soviets got the shit kicked out of them by Pope Saint John Paul the Great. Literally cracked the Iron Curtain single-handedly. This in turn brought about the revival of Orthodoxy (though the Orthodox won't admit he had anything to do with it), which led to the return of Russian Christianity, which, ultimately, means that John Paul was also responsible for the consecration of Russia, requested by the Virgin Mary herself when she appeared at Fatima.

Write about that.
>>
>>7947014
lel, she's brainwashed by the Party. There's not an ounce of communism left in China. They're corporatist-capitalist with a dash of mercantilism. Been that way since Deng.
>>
How the fuck can people complain about having to write essays? You probably type over 3000 words a day on this piece of shit website. How hard is it to shit out some essay? Yeah you probably won't get an A since you waited until the last minute but you'll probably pass.
Now try studying engineering and waiting until the last minute. That's true fear.
>>
>>7946005
The guy who*
>>
>>7947020
I hate how you guys always default to 'brainwashed' when talking about the Chinese. We were discussing politics pretty intensely before then, and I've found that in general a lot of Chinese know more about their country's severe problems than the average westerner tends to.
>>
>>7947032
Well, yeah, they know more than us because we hear almost nothing about daily life in China. The government keeps a pretty tight lid on what goes on in the country.

The fact remains that if she truly thinks China is still communist she's swallowed the CPC's lies.
>>
>>7947037
I meant they know more about their own problems than we tend to about ours. I work with an SOE in Guangdong, a car company, and I've met a lot of stupid Chinese who parrot Party lines but I've also met a lot who are very humble and thoughtful about their politics.
>CPC's lies
They lie about a lot but in ideological terms they're pretty honest. That shit is taken very seriously over here. I've seen fights break out over it. Even if you disagree with their interpretation of 'socialism', once you've spent enough time with Party members and representatives you realise that there's a lot less cynicism about it than we assume.
>>
>>7947032
'brainwashed' should really be the default when talking about everyone. It shouldn't even be an insult really, it's just a reality of how people think, and where their beliefs come from.
>>
Write about what you know.

You should have enough material to write 3000 words on how shit you are at fishing for help on your homework from 4chan.
>>
>>7947046
Okay, fine, so they're not lying, they're just kind of nutty. Are you seriously saying that they think their economic system is still communist, even after all the changes that have been made?

They don't even guarantee health care and a pension for everyone any more. Mao's Iron Rice Bowl is dead. How is that socialism/communism?
>>
>>7947108
To the Chinese socialism is defined primarily by public ownership of the means of production rather than by social welfare - and at my guess something like 60% of the economy is still SOE-driven, with the rest controlled informally and loosely by mechanisms such as CPC shareholders in private companies, patronage, etc. And the Party includes a lot of billionaires and capitalists but as an entity still (somehow) manages to sit apart from them, making it something very different to, say, Japanese or Korean oligarchic capitalism. A native capitalist wants to do business in China he has to either get very good at bribing folk (riskier and riskier these days) or become a 'safe' communist entrepreneur, which requires all kinds of private and public commitments that are very hard to shirk. From what I've heard the admission of capitalists into the CPC has changed the capitalists far more than the Party. I'm not saying all this as some true believer in glorious Chinese communism, mind - I'm saying this as an objective account of what I've seen.

Even if we can't call China socialist in the old Eastern Bloc sense, it's definitely not capitalist either. I'd call it socialist in the sense that the people here have a very elaborate definition of what they call 'socialism' and they (generally) sincerely believe in it. As a matter of fact I think the way it uses market mechanisms is ingenious and I hope it can be reformed into something a lot less corrupt in the future, but that's a sentimental dream of mine.
>>
>>7947149
To me it's pure oligarchy. Hell, it might even be described as fascism. China does check a lot of the boxes off of being a fascist state, given the public ownership you've mentioned, its glorification of the state and the party, the intense pressure it puts on citizens to sacrifice for the nation, etc..

Granted, you could also call the United States a fascist nation. Maybe the US has always been a little fascist.

Regardless, I just don't feel comfortable calling modern China socialist. It's so much its own thing compared to both classic Marxist socialism and the social democracy of Western Europe. It needs a new name, if anything.
>>
>>7945136

Why does it need a certain word count? Just seems like bullshit padding to me. Completely unnecessary if you can get your point across in fewer words.
>>
>>7947183
The US did have pronounced fascist leaning until fascism in Europe became a boogeyman.
Then we just called our fascist leaning something else.
>>
>>7945136

>>
>>7947193
Seeing as how 3000 isn't actually all that much, the teacher might be seeing how well students can balance between detail and generality in a limited space.
>>
>>7947183
To be fair on the Party it actually encourages a less violent and militaristic nationalism than people actually want. The Party doesn't like nationalism so much as it's wary that nationalism is a great way to undermine communist ideology (they are obsessed with the fall of the USSR). So it'd rather sit on top of it than let anyone else use it, but they don't like to encourage it too much.
>>
>>7947211
Well they've kept the pope away, so that's one thing they're doing better than the Soviets.
>>
flip the script and write an essay on how christianity inspired communism
>>
>>7947211
>they are obsessed with the fall of the USSR
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comprehensive_National_Power
They're so obsessed that they created a power ranking chart which would place USSR lowly so they don't fall into the "Konunktur uber alles" trap.

No it isn't. They killed thousands of priests and nuns and imprisoned thousands more and banned religion from the public sphere. This statement just might be the most retarded one I've ever read on 4chan, and this includes /his/ trying to discuss metaphysics.
>Same with saying they were anti nationalism.
They were, you got jailed for expressing your national pride and they spent decades on propaganda against national states as genocidal constructs making up death camps with alleged millions of deaths.
>So if you can't come up with anything mainstream talking points, then go with arguments that are against mainstream.
I hope OP isn't mentally retarded like you, honestly.
>>
>>7947149
I think it is a mistake to think China is communist as it's closer to a standard fascist totalitarian country. But than again, the line between fascism, communism and just totalitarian systems is so thin it's hard to differentiate them and an argument could be made either way.

This is the best way to go about it.

The way to get a solid B is to write a well researched, well written paper with clear logical formulation.

The way to get an A is to reframe the context of the paper and blow your professor's mind.

'Totalitarian' is a fallacy, a Cold War buzzword. In reality there are significant differences between all kinds of 'totalitarian' (read: not liberal and capitalist) societies, so many as to make the word meaningless. Please try to read up on these things harder.

Pretty sure there's a large number of people - not even DINDU NUFFINS, just academics - who dispute the theory of totalitarianism, Amerifat.
>>
>>7948143
Not really, or at least it cannot be said it is accepted.
I'm also not American, ex commie country here.
The main element that is commonly accepted where the expression comes from is desire for total control over people in their private lives. So a country which is actively penalizing having children and goes out of its way to brainwash people (we had a Chinese in our school who when asked about China spoke about how great and powerful military it has and how it will win over the western capitalism) is pretty totalitarian.
>>
>>7948198

>>
>all these people thinking it's easy because it's just 3000 words
Have you never done an essay? The problem is the bibliography, not the amount of words. I've had a 0% once because according to the professor "the bibliography was too small for an essay that long"
if all it took was writing what you knew it'd be easy, but you have to write what you know and then attribute that to whoever said it first

I never had a problem with that, I usually have about a page of references after every 5 pages. Use google scholar or books or go to a library if you have so little idea as to how to look for information.
>>
>>7947032
But China is by no means communist. It's simply not true if you look at their economy. Communism does not mean state controlled capitalism.
>>
>>7948428
what kind of subjects do you usually work on, though? Look at op's post, his essay is on the influence of christianity on the fall of communism
that's history. That means there needs to be pretty much half a page of footnotes per page

>They killed thousands of priests
They killed priests, yes, but they were not in the thousands upon thousands. And it mostly happened shortly after the revolution. The USSR allowed the practice of religion in private. I mean, I dislike the soviets, but the way they treated religion was grossly exaggerated. There's a reason that the orthodox faith still dominates Russian culture after the fall of the soviets.

>you got jailed for expressing your national pride
again citation needed. Have you ever seen a soviet war film? or look at the Khmer Rouge. They were named after the largest ethnic nationality in Cambodia? They're all based on some form of nationalism. Hell, the Yugoslavs were federalized during soviet control based on ethnic regions.
