It is. People overlook it because it's first part drags a lot introducing the characters and all.

No. It stays a drag and you lose more and more interest since it lacks the big conversations his other novels are known for and it's 800 pages. Read just about anything besides this and The Adolescent and you'll have a better time.
It's by no means a bad novel, just not the Dostoevsky you know and love.
