There tend to be two different kind of people in regards to religion, both of them being equally wrong. One group thinks the metaphors in religious texts are facts. Those are what we call theists. The other group knows that the metaphors are not facts. And so they're untrue, they're lies. Those are the atheists.
Both groups are entirely missing the point because the symbols are not supposed to be interpreted as facts, they are metaphors. God is a metaphor for a mystery that absolutely transcends all human categories of thought, even the categories of being and non-being. Those are categories of thought. I mean it's as simple as that. So it depends on how much you want to think about it. Whether it's doing you any good. Whether it is putting you in touch with the mystery that's the ground of your own being. If it isn't, well, it's a lie and you call yourself an atheist.

I don't blame you for feeling that way, I did too, but there's a time when you just step back and go "wait a minute, this can't be factual". At that point most people stop and drop religion thinking it's all lies and you get the cringy edgy atheist situation we now have on our hands. If you actually investigate mythology, which what religion actually is but interpreted as a historical fact, you find a wealth of psychological symbolism that you can then bring into your life.

Nietzsche was correct in making Christ his final enemy, Dionysus vs. the Crucified. His philosophy really does end where the teachings of Christ begin. However, Christ was not a philosopher, he was a sage who taught love out of a process of becoming infinitesimally small as an individual. He doesn't destroy Nietzsche's philosophy, he just manages to avoid it through a massive spiritual ignorance. Faith does not move mountains, it creates new ones made of sand in the land of nothingness and moves those, merely pretending that it is doing anything meaningful at all.

I didn't suggest that I was having deep thoughts and other people were sheep, its true that if you look at religion/mythology through the lens of historical fact then you are most likely to be either an atheist or theist. Theists believe in the fact of God or gods and atheists disbelieve in the fact, when gods aren't meant to be understood as facts at all. The problem is that the stories of the life of Jesus, for instance, are not a historical biography in the same vain as The Life of Lincoln, but people misunderstand that on both accounts. Gods are psychological symbols representing potentials in ourselves or forces in nature not historical facts "out there" somewhere. Sure, you can pray to a god, but really all your doing is a meditation if you really understand the message.
