you actually shouldn't count sheep when you're trying for sleep but actually imagine a calm soothing environment e.g. lying on the beach as the sun sets in front of you and the waves in high tide lap up on the beach, which may qualify as a sufficiently calm image to foster drowsiness for some people.

The title is a contemplation derived from the desire instilled in Deckard that drives all of his actions throughout the course of the story. In his world, the act of adopting and nurturing an animal is how one expresses to society the definitive human capacity for empathy, the only quality remaining unable to be replicated by Androids. Rick Deckards pet sheep had long before the beginning of the story died, replaced with an electronic android model, which early in the story also breaks down. He is primarily pursuing these rogue androids to collect their bounty so he can fix his electric sheep.
