alfred jarry loved it. crowley also liked it enough to name his religion of Thelema after the abbey of theleme in the book. "Do what thou wilt" was taken from rabelais too. the books are humorous and read well even today, especially when you consider how long ago it was written. it's a good absurd, episodic adventure. still shocking to think that rabelais worked at a monastery.
