The same high school teacher that assigned me blood meridian just assigned me pic related

I haven't read any post modernism, will this be a good way to prepare for the meme trilogy?

Not underage ;)

It's a good book.

But it's written by a black female, so the frog people and redpillers on here aren't going to like it.

no it's objectively not a good book

the symbolism is heavyhanded and the themes are trite. it leans too heavily on subject matter and melodrama as opposed to any real artistry. if she wasn't a black woman she'd be rightfully ignored, but alas, she got a nobel prize for her absolutely joke of a writing career.

this. White men are being overlooked in the Nobel Prize. over the last 20 years of political correctness and leftist RETARD socialism there's barely been any white winners because politics have taken over and they want to subvert white culture

maybe if you took off your ideology glasses and liberal brainwashing you'd see the truth through the redpill (i.e. non-ideological, undistorted, value-free, scientific, objective capital T-truth).
>>
read them theyre both good and stop thinking in terms of 'levelling up' or whatever reading x to prepare for x, just read what you want as long as it's good

the only stuff you should really know as background for most writing are ancient mythology(particularly the greeks and the bible - for western writers anyway) and then maybe a few old classics (shakespeare, whitman if youre american, dante etc)

reddit loves the idea of levelling up or completing levels of things, as they've all been infected by the logic of video games, so you can fuck off

thinking mccarthy and morrison are good is /reddit/

thinking you don't need to read the canon is /reddit/

fuck off back to /reddit/, /reddit/

Daily reminder that:
>Marcel Proust
>Nabokov
>James Joyce
>Thomas Pynchon
>Henry James
>Cormac McCarthy
>William Shakespeare

All have not been awarded the Nobel Prize and Toni Morrison, whose entire career amounts to the same 'Black Lives Matter' chip-on-the-shoulder that all 'urban' authors have, has.

blood meridian is good, and so is beloved, other works by them are worse

i implied you do need to have understanding of canonical texts, but they're not a necessity to enjoy or appreciate every text, you don't have to understand every reference in the waste land to appreciate it, it's not a game of 'guess what this refers too'

but this is why i pointed to biblical and greek myth, because they are reference so widely and deeply in many literary works

so you can still fuck off, you seem to lack comprehension skills that reading often gives people

Yes, the Nobel Prize existed when Shakespeare was alive

It's a good piece of post southern Gothic with elements of magical realism. It's not transcendent but it has some good atmosphere and there are some really great prose moments. Contrary to shitposters it's not about "muh blackness" but guilt.
