I started The Shining and read something like 80 pages into it if I remember correctly, 100 tops. I liked what I read but obviously it didn't suck me in completely since I didn't finish it.

I did enjoy Mr Mercedes. I liked the theme of an old, retired cop who is contemplating suicide, but gets new zest and motivation when he tracks down a killer. It's an entertaining vigilante story.
Also, there was a passage early on that described the antagonist's attraction to his mother, and the passage is gloriously perverse.
