Dante or Milton, /lit/? Or someone else?
Who is the greatest writer of Christian epic poetry?

Richard Dawkins.
Hegel.
My Italian friend (who has read both in their native languages) says he thinks Dante was the better poet. Going off of the Mandelbaum translation, I'd probably agree with him, though I haven't read PR yet.
Jesus is the lord that he wrote the bible and it's the only thing you should read because if you don't then you're not reading the word of god also our pastor said that if you read bad books and then pray to god you're praying to a different god and go to hell. Also don't look up to writers pastor John said that it's wrong as well. If you have any question ask away. God bless. Daisy
Both are more or less the pinnacle of their own languages. Both are incredibly ambitious. Both are beautiful.
I'm a Catholic, so I'm a little butthurt at Milton, but I can't deny he's a genius. Still, I think Dante takes it based on the sheer inventiveness of his imagery. No wonder everybody thinks he did drugs (though I don't really believe that).

thanks for your post
Milton for my money, though I do not read Italian.
Read both (the Comedy in translation) and it's Dante by an absolute mile.
Dante ofc
