Is this a good book?

What does the cover look like under the dust-cover for the hardcover edition?

>Introduction by Ron ROSENBAUM

Gee, I don't see how it could be biased at all.
>>

Is Ron a Jew or something?
>>

No. Rosenbaum is a German name, common among the Nazis. This Rosenbaum probably depicted Hitler in a far too positive light. Far too Anti-Semitic.

Haven't read it yet, but I hear it's largely eclipsed by Evans' trilogy (Third Reich in Power, Third Reich at War, etc.). Still should be worth a read I think, if only for its long-standing influence.

Here's my (unread) copy without the dust jacket. If you have a big used bookstore nearby, you should be able to find 2-3 of these. Mine was $4.

Shirer will retain value as a dramatizer. Evans is comparatively dry.

Sweet, thanks anon.

I don't know of any used bookstores around my area, and books are expensive at the normal bookstore, so I buy my books from bookdepository.

Congratulations on the most autistic thread in /lit/

Here's Richard Evans on why he wanted to update Shirer's book:

"one of my main aims was to replace William L. Shirer’s outdated book on the Third Reich, which has a terribly simplistic view of Nazism as the inevitable culmination of the whole of German history and an expression of the “German character.” If after reading my books people think of it all as less inevitable than Shirer says it was, and see the Germans as people like us, then it will have achieved one of its major aims."
