he has a good eye for characters, and paints many of them very well out of life and into (unfortunately, to an extent) his heavily symbolic contraptions. His morals are too whitmanian for me. his writing style lags and is rather lopsided. his poetry is cute but bad. his essays are GOAT. overall important but mixed imo
