Check out HakoMari, Bungoku Shoujo and Zaregoto. The last one only has 5 volumes translated, but it is god tier.

The first was on my list, I watched the Bungoku Shoujo animation and was pretty nice though I'm not sure I can get myself to read the novel yet, maybe later this year (I still remember the story well). I never heard Zaregoto and I'm definitely checking it out.

Using the 'meme' argument is just self-parody, because you're using a meme to denegrate someone for using a meme.

Brief History of Seven Killings
Sandalwood Death by Mo Yan
Death comes for the Archbishop by Cather

My only top book on that list is Blood Meridian
>>
Yes by Bernhard
Seven Madmen/Flamethrowers by Arlt
Complete Short Stories by Chekhov
>>
>>7741219
Tale of Two Cities is on the list.

From authors on the list:
Dickens - Bleak House
Melville - The Confidence Man
Tolstoy - The Death of Ivan Ilyich

From authors not on the list:
Swift - Gulliver's Travels / Tale of a Tub
Solzhenitsyn - Cancer Ward
Kazantzakis - Zorba the Greek

Also: No Flannery O'Connor?
>>
>>7741434
>Kazantzakis - Zorba the Greek
It sounds a bit corny. Could you please tell me why the book is worth?

Thanks for sharing.

The Dove by Patrick Süskind
Schachnovelle (The Royal Game) by Stefan Zweig
Nibelungenlied

Silence by Endo

Kim by Kipling
The Remains of the Day

I cant believe The Good Earth made it on there. How many votes needed for 80-100
>>
>>7741441
Admittedly is a little corny. But egg-head narrator vs. Zorba gets at why one reads literature at all - Zorba, the fictional character, certainly sees the written word as an unnecessary stain. The book is more ambiguous than it seems.

Plus it's not so goddamn gloomy. Spring weather calls for authors like Cervantes, not melancholy old Dickens.
>>
>>7741503
Alright, thanks. Might check it out.

Moby dick in really in your top 100?!? Melville is the most overrated author ever.

My favorite novelists are the ones I mentioned, plus Ishiguro Kipling Llosa Roth Hardy and some Chinese classics. Don't assume.
>>
>>7741630

Critique of Pure Reason, The Idea of the Holy (it's not that good but I love the numinous concept and it was one of the first philosophy novels I read), and probably the poetry of W.B Yeats if that counts. Most of my favourite novels like Stoner and No Longer Human are already there

Mao II
Omensetter's Luck
The Dead Father

Hard mode for plebs, maybe.

Benedetti - gracias por el fuego
Uslar pietri - oficio de difuntos
Miguel Otero silva - cuando quiero llorar no lloro

You guys should learn spanish, after the 1950's and until about the 80's, latin american literature was on another level.

Also, anything written by pablo neruda, probably the best poet of the 20th century.

if your idea of english fiction is limited by this list, maybe try

1. Love in the Time of Cholera

Why is there so much Camus on the list? I read The Plague last year and it was super bloated.
