Douglas Adams has been and always will be the most Reddit author.

Terry Pratchett (pic related) is a close second.

Andy "The Martian" Weir is quickly rising.
>>
>>7737502
They're both pretty pleb. Didn't you notice that many DFW fanboys seem to be Redditors?
>>
>>7737517
seconding Terry Pratchett

invisible cities was the most pointless thing ive ever bought
when i realised what the book was, part way into reading it i couldnt even fucking fathom that someone decided to publish it, never mind read it to the end
>>

Makes me wonder to what extent this little board influences reddit which influences the internets literary currents.

Probably not much, but from what ive seen in screenshots r/books is lapping up some of our shit.
>>
>>7737719
you can go to any "best book list" and get stuff like Nabokov, Joyce, Dostoyevsky. Its not like the stuff we read is obscure books that only we like

What makes an author 'reddit'? An overabundance of popular culture elements? Awkward or unfunny jokes? Too many cheap postmodern narrative tricks? Professing a kind of wisdom that is presented as obvious with an irritating confidence but on reflection seems cheap and naive? Mediocre prose?
>>
>>7737710

>Moby Dick (get the abridged version tho!)

Reddit has gone too far, I am so fucking mad
>>
>>7738327

If I particularly wanted to sling 'Reddit' around as an insult then
>Professing a kind of wisdom that is presented as obvious with an irritating confidence but on reflection seems cheap and naive?
is the key definition I would use, and Marquez and Vonnegut would be my top 2
>>

I am astonished that someone would seriously make this suggestion and others would agree with it. Sometimes I think I've read the most plebeian thing possible but then...
>>
>>7738336

How does Marquez fit that?

Who the fuck wants to read a whale encyclopaedia?

God Vonnegut is so fucking up there with this one. I just read God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater, and it was about the most on-the-nose thing I've ever read in my life.

Douglas Adams, by far. And also that author who's literally from reddit and has a Best Picture nominated film based on his book for some inexplicable reason.

A positive post here about DFW is a guarantee that the poster has reddit/books open in another tab.
>>
>>7738327
Being popular on reddit, obviously
>>
>>7738529

I mean if you don't see it then fine, a lot of people like him and all. But for me his books just give this overwhelming sense of a guy building this myth about himself that he's so wise and has so much knowledge of human nature. And it's all empty, his characters are interchangeable meat puppets at the whim of Marquez's penchant for human stupidity and drive-by historical forces. It's the most nihilistic and pessimistic kind of marxism; which is okay by me, but he doesn't even hit you with it, he tries to hide it behind some tacky veil of humanism and sentiment, and so he saps all the sincerity and power out of all of it and leaves you with the sole message of a smirking Vonnegutesque 'so it goes'.
>>
Obviously lots of the books held up on reddit/books (or whatever it is) are good.

Do you seriously think you'd like everyone who likes the same books as you?
>>
>>7737475
>4chan and reddit are enemies
When will you guys stop pretending most of you don't use both sites?
>>
>>7741472
Most really don't. Why the fuck would I use reddit, especially for books?
>>
>>7741472
i never use reddit anymore, i used it for literature suggestions, until I found their top list. I realized it was a haven for plebs, and i was alone for quite a few years until i came to this land of death.
>>
>>7741472
When will reddit users stop pretending they belong here? Most anons pre-2010 came here from Gaia, SA, cracked, newsgrounds, even habbo etc - reddits core site ethos are an anathema to 4chans anonymous, transient meritocracy and it encourages a sycophantic and uninventive community of chucklefucks.

But disliking a book just because reddit likes it is immature. Vonnegut, for instance, is an average author and SH5 is a flawed gem in the sense that the ma is so obviously traumatised by his experience in Dresden and wonderfully unable to translate or look away from it, but his fan base shouldn't detract from his rather smug work.
>>
>>7741472
>Use both sites
Fuck off. I only use 4Chan. No Fagbook, Twigged, Plebbit, etc. 4Chan is all you need.
