Do we read just to put ourselves into a fantasy?
When I was younger, life was filled with such wonder, such splendor, it was as if I was living a fantasy. A world that was pointlessly beautiful.
Now I feel nothing. Every moment I'm not consuming something, I'm waiting to get my next fix. Whether it's food, it's video games, or even literature.
What can I read to get me out of this slump?
b-b-bump
write, draw, learn an instrument, etc.
1. that's a very juvenile reading (heh) of literature. it's more than just wishful escapism.
2. the world is in fact still pointlessly beautiful.
read the sot-weed factor.

end the degeneracy
Some books might be escapism, but worthwhile literature is an exploration or confrontation of reality, not an escape from it.
Try to motivate yourself to create something instead of constantly consuming. If you find this impossible, seek therapy/meds for your depression.
call me a simpleton but I read because I like to learn about different subjects and experience interesting settings. you're only going to get out of it what you want to

Don't know about what to read, but you need to take up a vigorous outdoor sport/activity and confront the beauty of nature and your own body.

I live in the city, there is hardly nature here.

Is there anything wrong with 'escapism'? We tend not to question this but isn't this basically liberal ideology, you must read because you cannot 'face up' etc.

You could stimulate the "enjoying the beauty of nature" thing by watching Planet Earth.

Chicago anon here. Not sure if this is sarcasm but ive done pretty much this and it helps. Also go to parks, put plants( even fake ones) around your apt.
