What do you think of fantasies almost absurd homogeneity as a genre? Is it lazy in it's rigid commitment to Tolkien or is that simply the nature of the genre now and the nuance is to be found within?

Its not that big of a problem now, many authors go out of their way to avoid Tolkienisms

I think you're just not reading enough fantasy. Darksword was kinda boring.

Like who? The only big fantasy names I can think of that have mostly forsaken Tolkien are Rowling, Gaiman and Martin and even Martin is a stretch.

>Bakker
>Lynch
>Mieville
>Wolfe

Darksword was just kind of a last straw for me. Such a nothing series.

Scott Lynch does good but I'd hardly consider him completely unshackled from Tolkien and his writing is too basic for me to call him a great. Mieville was pretentious identity crisis horseshit rivalled only by Terry Goodkind. Can't speak to Bakker or Wolfe.

Don't let it get you down senpai.
Have you tried Terry Brooks' Landover series yet? It might help.

No but I'm familiar with Shannara and reading the synopsis it definitely sounds worth a look. Thanks anon.
