My thoughts too.
>>
>>7718601

I think we're already moving to 'People of Color'. Uh. Which is totally different from 'Colored People', which is deemed offensive.

I am a socialist party activist, I'm interested in not oppressing people, and I even think that we could stand to examine our collective use of language.

But holy shit this really gets up my nose. Was at a rally today where a student speaker introduced herself as woman-identifying. No trans issues, speech wasn't about gender or anything -- she was just a young woman. And yet she felt the need to do that just to be right-on.

Meanwhile, actual change languishes.
>>
>>7718737

Ivan Ivanovich kindly demonstrated the chair's placement to me, commenting, "Vasiliy Vasilieivich! This is a fine chair, is it not"? Not wanting to offend, I replied, "Of course it is, Ivan Ivanovich! What a very fine chair it is", and I wept with joy as I saw that God's grace truly embraced all of us, the vain and the loveless, the chaired and the chairless alike, and though I had first spoken with a false sentiment it had been transformed, as if a miracle, into a genuine appreciation of the beauty of the chair, which is like a reflection of God's love for all of us (except T*rks and B*sniaks GO SLAVS WOOO)

Do these social leftist types have any interest at all in class struggle or economics?

I don't know if you're American or not, but I am, and here in America you have all these socially liberal kids who are really pretty free market and anti-worker if you just scratch their varnish off a little bit. It's vomit-inducing.

Well, as I see it, we are on the cusp of a revival of no-bullshit leftism (things like Sanders and Fight for Fifteen).

As I see it, mass student politics is a bit of a historical anomaly (to do with Baby Boom etc.) and you can see it today with the way student politics is eating itself alive. While it was cool at the time, I don't really think the Spirit of '68 is the way forward for modern leftism.

Real change will require real intellectuals, and many of those will come out of tertiary education, but the idea of a mass of students as a main protest force revolts me. Real change can only be achieved by workers and community activism, as I see it.

The thing we need to do is really just learn to ignore the bourgeoisie, and know the difference between liberalism and leftism. Liberalism was once a progressive force (like capitalism), and I think the Enlightenment was great, but the project has stalled and the true heirs of the Enlightenment are workers and the mass of people.

The transition from social to economic issues is for me the vital point for leftism today and it is slowly starting to happen. Even better is that economic struggle is naturally inclusive (rather than artificial single-issue activism) precisely because women, blacks, whoever also tend to be underpaid and have more skin in the fight for better wages, social programmes, and dignity.

Good news is that stuff is starting to break out uncontrollably in patches.

>>7719536
Come on man, that's not what we're saying. The issue is that we've decided to hop on the euphemism treadmill. Every word for a minority sooner or later becomes a dirty word because it gets uttered contemptuously. In this sense I like the reclaiming strategy that the queers (their term) have used in a lot of places.

Race and gender politics are a tool of the bourgeoisie to destroy the left, and it worked.
>>
>>7719597

I agree that they're a divisive tool, but I don't think it worked -- the left isn't totally dead.

At any rate, you've gotta think more dialectically comrade. Actions like unleashing gender politics have allowed genuine gains (e.g. women in the workforce), and any this sets the stage for the next movement of history. The bourgeoisie can't just do stuff without causing big backlashes later (although they may be decades or even centuries later).
>>
>>7719604
They caused the left to be entirely associated with upper middle class brats virtue signalling to each other at colleges and in their elite do-nothing media jobs and academia. The opposition to this is at this point entirely right-wing, although an interesting side effect is the lack of emphasis on free markets and "small government" among the "alt-right" types, so things are being shaken up at the very grassroots level.

But there's no major movement to turn the left back to economics and worker engagement. Bratty whites virtue signalling and middle class minorities trying to get on the diversity and grievance gravy train is in full swing. It will take decades to reverse this, if ever.
>>
>>7719617

Oh, okay. Well I will just tell my unionist mates to stop organising a strike then.

Danke, Herr Heilingfuehrer alt-right intellectual for correcting me.
>>
>>7719625

Actually, let me apologise for snapping that out hastily and snarkily. I didn't really mean it like that.

But there is a left, or if there's not one now then there never HAS BEEN a left.

Europe is currently daubed with acres of anarchist and socialist graffiti, and squatting is prevalent, and there's tons of union activity and opposition. Greece elected Syriza, Podemos had big gains in Spain, and the UK's Labour Party has had more new joiners since Corbyn was elected than were members of the entire Conservative Party (and that followed not a victory, but an electoral smashing).

The basically anarchist revolution Kurds are taking huge chunks of country out of the hands of IS and they're fighting the entire T*rk state and, while hurting, they've not lost yet.

Boycott, Divest and Sanction is pissing Israel off so hard that they're pressuring allied states to pass anti-BDS laws.

America is seeing BLM across the nation (which is much more coherent and serious than a bunch of bourgeois students), Fight for Fifteen is going ahead, all sorts of nascent strike and union action. The IWW are unionising fucking Starbucks restaurants, man. Bernie Sanders won a primary. It's not the perfect revolution but it is pretty damn decent.

In Australia we've still got active unions, and they are still able to organise to fight around not just local pay and conditions but also stuff like anti-austerity and social services cuts.

The left is as strong as it has been for decades. We don't have a revolutionary situation on our hands, but things aren't the gloomy picture you're painting -- it's not 2007 anymore.
>>
>>7719542
>Sanders
>not bullshit
I know a site you would greatly enjoy
>>
>>7719650

I am not interested in Sanders as a saviour, I am interested in him as a gauge of underlying population sentiment. A self-declared democratic socialist even coming close to winning primaries in America is big news, just for using the S-word.

Ultimately he's too soggy for me, and I know if he gets in it'll be all compromise and whatever, but you can't deny his value as a barometer.

Why would you even read fiction anyway. There's like 3 different plots in the history of creativity and they're all covered by half a season of Stargate SG1.

There's so many ideas that are shared without the need of a pleb devices like characters and plots.
