Can somebody explain to me why anybody actually likes this beyond "hurr durr muh first modern prose novel in the English language hurr durr" and "hurr durr a women writer in the 17th century feminism yeah hurr durr"?
I understand its importance to the development of English literature as well as Western literature in general but beyond that it's kind of fucking garbage with no actual substance, aside from kind of being a social polemic about slavery, maybe, sort of? and the author's own attempt to rid herself of the guilt associated with slavery
tl;dr oroonoko is shit, why does anybody actually like it?
