What kind of fiction can I read that describes people as greedy, lusting, superficial, shallow creatures unaware of their own motives, but feigning their sense of "just" morality by whatever ignorant and pretentious views of the world and the unmentioned self-importance they have?
I'd really just appreciate a book that kind of tears humanity and any ideas of free-will to shreds?
I've got Stirner and Nietzsche, but I'd like some fiction, because I'm trying to take upon creative writing and would like some references. Some of my favorite authors have been Gnut Hamsun, Cormac McCarthy, William S. Burroughs, and Voltaire.
I was thinking "The Prince" by Machiavelli would be another good addition.
(And, naw, this isn't the only type of literature I read; I like optimistic works too.)
