Can /lit/ recommend me some action novels with well written prose? The kind that really paints the scene and puts the picture in your mind's eye.
Note that when I say action, I specifically mean violent content. Fight scenes and shootouts, mostly.

Oh shit I missed well written prose.
Blood Meridian?
Most things written by McCarthy fit this description.
Greek, Roman, and old English poetry is mostly action oriented if you're interested in that as well.
If you're looking for dumb entertainment try Robert Heinlein, or maybe Battle Royale.
Don Pendelton - Mack Bolan/The Excecutioner series. The series that Marvel ripped off and made The Punisher. Everything you expect from Punisher, ex Nam vet family killed by the mob, launches war on mob, wears the all black, hunted by he government, govt pegitimizes him and builds a team around him (Pheonix Force which are pretty much The Avengers). Published bi-monthly since the 60's, forst 20 by Pendelton, after its a rotating cast of writers.
Tom Clancy - Rainbow 6 is a hell of a book
Robert Ludlum - Apocolyps Watch
Ian Fleming, Higson, Amis, Garner, Benson, Faulks, Boyd, Deaver - James Bond series
Mickey Spillane - Mike Hammer series
Denis Johnson, probably.
