Depends on your agenda. You get a different thing out of it than most other books. Plot isn't important in these books, it's pretty much just a narration of one's life. Don't get me wrong, it's great. But don't try to look for any significant metaphor or theme other than nostalgia. For me nostalgia means pain, so Proust's work was pretty evocative for me.
