I usually favor translations unless it's a reasonably simple English, but books like Ulysses are *designed* to read them in English, no matter how hard that can be.
I saw a translated version the other day where about a fifth of the book was a huge table of English expressions used in the original text, and their true meaning. Why not just read the goddamn book in English?

I am the guy who posted the pic with the italian translations and right now the only books I read in a Newton Compton edition are Ulysses and Brothers Karamazov. And both were very good.
I have Potrait Of A Lady in the backlog but I read positive things about it.

I have plenty of books myself. You seem to miss the point, not everyone can afford to regularly spend money on books, let alone €100 each month or two.
Personally I'm a fucking neet and yet I've just bought the Dying Earth series but only because the 4 books costed me €17.
So, if I really like a book I've read, loaned from the library or pirated on my Kobo, I'll buy it, otherwise not. This will generally be my behaviour from now on until I'll have a steady income, with few exceptions as with the Dying Earth series.

to read Larva, which is his best, you need to at least be aware of Don Juan (Byron's especially) and Joyce in general. there's definitely a plot but imo it's more fun to focus on the puns and wordplays --which are necessary to decode what's going on anyway. honestly just jump in and have fun, family

I'm happy with both volumes. They are nice quality and very complete (including some poems that had been unpublished). I have actually read much of the commentary yet so I can't really vouch for that but it appears to be good. I just looked and there are over 100 pages of notes and commentary just on The Waste Land. I only recently got them so I could flesh out Eliot's works and to start diving into them more critically but haven't had time yet. Picked them up after the recommendation from NYRB a couple weeks back.
