I don't like childhood memoirs because the narrators are often positioned as blameless and they don't get into muh psychological insight, but Mary's in particular is basically the whole tale of her life, from some glimpses of the childhood through when she set out to become a writer (a poet, actually) to parenthood and her own alcoholism and having to cope with the world to function as a parent. I dunno, a great memoir in that tradition of baring all out of love and not self aggrandizement is as good as any novel when done right.
