Wow. Is that a first edition The Snowy Day that I see? Keats nearly lost his mind writing that book, and he never fully recovered. His follow up, The Sunny Beach, was complete shit.

Collected works of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jin_Yong

One of my favorite authors and some of the earliest books I've read. I've probably read his entire stuff 10+ times over.

>>7652406
IDK they were amassed over the years. I don't really have any "premium" editions besides a Franklin library copy of Faust that I got for like $40. The Shakespeare set I got for ~$400, and the Jin Yong cost ~$250, of which ~$200 was overseas shipping costs from China. The cost, if I had to guess, averages around $15 per book, so multiply by however many books there are and you'll probably be in the right ballpark. It's not like I bought them all in one day.

>>
>>7652672
I loved the actual writing/set-up/story, but really disliked the core conflict.

You just sent people to make contact with aliens on an alien planet, and the only survivor ends up being prosecuted and assumed guilty even though no one knew what actually happened? And the only reason is because he was seen in a sexually compromised position/was obviously deranged when he killed the child? That seems highly unrealistic/asinine to me.

Still liked the book quite a bit though.

I'll have to describe since it's a mess atm:
>The King of Betajnova by Ivan Cankar
>Tolstoy 4 books (W&P and Anna included)
>2 books if some kind of collection by Gogol
>Mother by Gorki
>Kashtanka by Chekov
>Some kiddie books like Around the World in 80 days and Tom Sawyer
>2 Dylan Dog Comics
>Life on the Missouri by Twain
>About 10~15 poetry collection books, includes Poe, Tagore...
>Mother by Gorki
>C&P
>The Dead Souls by Gogol
>2 Tome book about Marxism, don't know author.
>6 Shakespeare plays

But what I really like is my grandpa's collection that is still in his house, this place is a fucking gold mine since my grandpa studied literature, I love it so damn much:
>Faust
>Julia or the new Heliose
>2 Dummas books includes The Black Tulip
>About 6 Hemingway books
>10 books by Stefan Zweig
>10 books by August Senoa
>War and Peace
>Herman Hesse compilation book
>Heart of Darkness
>5/6 books of his own work
>About 30-40 books from writers from my country
>Old western thrillers and comic books and much more, seriously, every time I visit I discover something new and awesome there.

Well, they were $2-3 and shrink-wrapped still. They look pretty cute so far; I know I'll at least keep the genre ones.

The only one I've read before was on Hiroshige, which I thought was adequate and well-selected. Definitely didn't work as "definitive overview", but of the several books on Hiroshige I was reading, it was one of the more beautiful. I'm hoping they release more Japanese/Eastern artists in general.

i'm guessing you got them at the damaged/display book sale last weekend, which is totally understandable. not bad for a very basic overview.

i do have the XL version of hiroshige 100 views of edo. it's pretty incredible. i hope they start releasing more complete works in general, of any artist. they do an unbelievable job providing very up close and quality detail of each work, plus great information about the artist, the work, etc. all of them were written by various scholars who specialize in them.

here's a few of mine, rest are packed at the moment

Yep! I've always felt uncomfortable with how little I know about Western art, so thought, why not. My art readings are almost exclusively Japanese otherwise.

I'm guessing the XL Hiroshige is the one that's $40 MSRP (this one? http://www.amazon.com/Hiroshige-One-Hundred-Famous-Views/dp/3836521202/), or is there a larger one? If that one weighs over four pounds, I can't imagine how heavy Michelangelo & da Vinci are there.

I always feel like it's a crap shoot buying any art books I haven't already read, since I never for certain know if I'm just getting 2 color prints + a book of black and whites or what.
>>
>>7658137
the one i have is out of print. originally printed in 2008. ISBN 978-3822848272
the MSRP was $150 i think. weight about 12 lbs.

the da vinci one weighs like 23 lbs

actually all the books you see there are out of print. they usually release large format XL or even XXL editions, then reprint a few years later smaller. to get a sense of scale, the da vinci book is around 20" x 12", the reprint they have out now is around 14" x 9"
