Dom Casmurro, although so obvious, has to been there as the best brazilian book, you could just feel the irony lingering there and how genius of a writer Assis is. I've read that "The Devil to Pay in the Backlands" is the greatest brazilian piece of literature, but i guess i'll never know, since there never will be a translation that makes justice given Guimarães' prose style.
