What are some writers that talk about the practical benefits of state religion and acknowledging religiosity?

After all, the whole discussion about the truth-claims of religion is ultimately irrelevant, what's needed is an analysis of what religion represents, how would people have a unified morality without it, etc. These are important questions.

I was hoping more like something where it would be discussed how a society without religion would continue, if it would even be possible and finally, worth it from an utilitarian viewpoint.
