Just finished Part I and am pretty blown away.

One thing I can say is that this book suffers in retrospect, and is much more enjoyable whilst you are actually reading it. A year on and I couldnt really give a shit.

Yup, pretty much. But one thing i've noticed is if you pick it up casually for a few pages, it's very hard not to like it again.

The Part About Archimboldi was astonishing. I though the part about Amalfitano was the weak link and, maybe I need to reread it, but I wasn't too keen on how it didn't seem to "converge" in the way I would have wanted it. I mean, it seemed to be setting itself up for the plots of the various characters to genuinely intertwine but it never happens. That and each part ends at the climax, right when you feel its really about to kick in...it stops. Every time.
