how many books are you planning to read this year?

I don't have a number planned because I'm not autistic.
>>
50 every year till i get dementia
>>
I don't plan to read a certain amount, I just read whenever I want to. If I keep up last year's pace it'll be somewhere in the 40s though

40 this year. Partially because I'm a screenwriter looking for a book to adapt, so I want to read as much as possible.

Why have I seen people posting Lain pics more frequently over the past year or so?

That series was great but it's just odd to see that its following seems to have gained a resurgence in activity.

I already read a short one and currently reading a longer one

If I keep up like this I'll probably read about 1000 books this year

but I don't read on weekends because I don't have to take the train so we end up with about 400 books for 2016

i go for 50 a year and that works well

There's like one person that can't handle the feeling that he's utterly insignificant so he clutches on some sort of behavior that makes him stand out somewhat, in this case, religiously posting anime.

24 is my minimum. I've only been reading 12-15 books/year fit the last bit. I really want to pick it up though. I have an optimistic goal of 48.

>2014: read 30 books

I want to go for 50 this year but I have too many giant unread tomes in my bookshelf like Moby-Dick, Don Quijote and War and Peace for me to be comfortable with that number.

My wife and I always read Doorstoppers together before bed. She doesn't herself read much and I have such a large backlog already that the idea of reading a large book seems like a road block. This way we can read together cuddled up in bed and I can get long books out of the way at a more leisurely pace without disrupting my normal reading.
>>
>>7603378
24 is a pretty good minimum actually. You'll probably achieve that at a leisurely pace this year. Good luck, anon.
>>
>>7603394
Might be better to set a page or word count goal then.
>>
>>7603411
Not that guy but I always wondered how is it to read before going to bed? I'd imagine it'd be difficult to remember aspects of your reading session if you're already quite tired, especially doorstoppers (I'd assume you're not trying Pynchon just before bed though; that'd be mentally exhausting).

Is it a comfier experience than I'm expecting?

Maybe I'll end up reading all 1000+ page books, or maybe in the spring I get on a novella kick. The number of books doesn't matter. What matters is that you enjoy reading and that you think about what you read.
>>
>>7605687
>>my face when already read 500 books this year
Were they picture books?
>>
>>7605697
I just take New Years Resolutions seriously. I do the same thing with fitness.

Saying "I will read a book a week" isnt autistic, its just structuring your life so that you dont find yourself playing games/netflix/porn every evening.
>>
>>7602865

>>
>>7605705
Fair enough, but I wouldn't be too strict with it or you may find yourself rushing through books just to keep on track.
Goals are good and can keep you focused, but I'd prefer to set a certain number of hours reading per week in this case.
>>
>>7605729
I tend to load 20 books on my kindle regardless of length and then finish/attempt all of them, putting aside books that bore or disinterest me as I go. Then I load another 20. The 52 book challenge is more difficult if you arent cherrypicking short books.

Not enough.

I read maybe 10 last year, all in the last few months

12 is my minimum every year. I don't set it too high because I don't want to have my ego making me go for shorter books, because I honestly enjoy fairly long books much more. Last book I read was like 750 pages for example, that's a perfect size for me.
>>
>>7603199

If you count animorphs I've already read 54 this year
>>
>>7602865
I put down 52.

I've read one so far, so I'm at pace for ~17. I think I'll do better than that -- around 30, methinks.
>>
last year I only read about 15 books as I was just getting into literature, but this year I'd like to at least read 50.
already read three, started the fourth one today (Crime and Punishment). But I'd prefer reading that one slowly.

412. One per day.
>>
as few as possible while going about my daily life
>>
56. Basically 1.5 times as many as I read last year. I've read 6 so far, apparently.
>>
Trying to read Notes From Underground. Just skimmed to the end of White Nights. Holy shit, this is more syrupy and romantic than Twilight. I thought this book was supposed to be dark and nihilistic? I'm completely turned off from reading any further.
>>
78.

Basically I started off with 52 a year, so that would be a book a week, but as I'm currently a NEET I thought I would bump it up to 1.5x that, so 1.5 books a week, 78 books. I should be able to do that. I was thinking 2x so 2 books a week, but that would be a book every 3.5 days, and some books are longer than others so I don't think I could do that.
>>
>>7602869
This.

>>

yeah man, reading before bed is the comfiest. and i'm pretty sure you remember things better that you read before going to sleep
>>
>>7612402
> skimmed

How about read it? The first half of the novella has most of the nihilism, as does the relationship he has with his manservant and the dinner scene with his non-friends. The only point possibly considered syrupy is the conversation with the prostitute, and even then, at that point it's fairly well justified.
>>
>>7612307
I do, it's a great series but it's also a pretty old one. I'd assume the waifu shit regarding Lain would be more relevant on /a/ than other boards.
I guess it just surprises me that, despite the age of the series, people have more recently become infatuated with her.
>>
>>7612515
People don't find her sexually attractive you dummy, she's an icon for programming and she's a daughteru
>>
Alot.
>>
>>7612510

I read about 40 pages, then he started repeating himself, fawning over Nastenka, talking about how lonely he is, the love goes unrequited... yawn. I had to skim it to see if something interesting happened.
>>
>>7602865
365 divided by 2.
>>
>>7612533
It's intended that he's repetitious and meandering - he's a NEET before NEETs were a thing as well as a dreadful hypocrite who finds petty reasons to dislike anything ever.

I'll give you that it's probably not for everyone, though. People new to Dostoevsky tend to find the first half of Notes quite dry. I guess if you're not keen on it, just move on to another book rather than skim, though: if you skim to an event you find more interesting in a book, you're bound to not appreciate or understand it to its full extent unless if the book is episodic in structure like Dubliners or something.

To eventually read every masterpiece ever written, you cuck.

That doesn't warrant a quota. Unless your standards for what's considered a masterpiece are incredibly low.

Reading literature is most definitely a task. It can take lots of time away from your day and you have "to do" something.

There is nothing wrong with that person making reading more as a goal for 2016. His goals could be far worse.
