ITT we recommend books we have never seen posted on /lit/ before
It's so hard to find Gombrowicz, library or e-book. I've only read Pornography, but it was pretty amazing.
Gombrowicz should be read in original. Otherwise it's waste of time. It's untranslatable.

>tfw Polish is my native tongue and I'm also fluent in French and English :^)
>>7523918
Is this any good? A bookstore near me has had a copy in French for years, but I've never felt the need to pick it up. I see it there whenever I stop by, mostly because of the evocative title.
>>7523970
So am I. Do you study? What/where?
>>7523980
It's wonderful.
You can download the movie if you want to know what's up in it.

The faggot who reads a book every day posted this shit
Christie Malry's Own Double-Entry
Does it count if I posted it a few times?
Woman Hating
Right Wing Women
Pornography and Civil Rights
>>7524142
I wonder how many times do I need to report you before the mods ban you.
>>7524171
>post literature recommendations in a literature recommendations thread on the literature board
>MOOOOOOOOOOOOODS
>>7524171
Do you literally get triggered by feminism?
Do you think there's a global no-feminism rule on 4chan?
>>7524200
You'll get bored eventually, like all the christfags.
>>7524213
Christianity is shit though.
Dworkin is actually rad.
>>7524223
Agreed, but you've tied your wagon to the wrong Dworkin.
>>7524239
Psht, do u even revolution?
>>7524142
You're turning tubby into a meme; you're shooting yourself in the foot
>>7524523
Tubby?
Also I haven't visited the board in two weeks. Either it's already a meme or we long-term meme now.
>>7523919
muh pupa
>>7523787
Stop shilling Gombrowicz
People read him and believe that he's legitimately as good or even better than other polish writers
reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
>>7523787
Bullshit. I bring this up as often as I can, fuckin 10/10.
>>7524544
There aren't even that many good polish authors to begin with lmao. And he was an expat most of his life, can he really be claimed as polish?
tfw your bookshelves have only books mentioned on /lit/ or books you haven't read yet so you can't post without feeling phony.
>>7524538
It's not a meme yet.
>>7524607
But every other polish author mentioned on /lit/ is better than him.
And yes, everyone on /lit/ knows him as 'that edgy funny guy who is also the best polish writer', which is detrimental to the image of Poland worldwide
>>7524642
You shouldn't be ashamed of gombrowicz. He's brilliant and unconventional in ways that most regional literature never sees once.
>>7524628
son read some other books for once
My contribution to thread:
if you like stream-of-consciousness, Dante's Inferno, have any interest in Iraq/Iran and the Middle Eastern conflicts that picked up after 9/11 along with an enjoyment of critiques on modern society, you should really read Quarantine by Juan Goytisolo
A+ book
>>7524642
>everyone on /lit/ knows him
Patently false
>>7524658
>brilliant
Nope
>unconventional
Maybe, but that doesn't make a great writer. Not by itself.
Not to mention that he is in fact bit off in translation, and that most polish writers always go overlooked while thisenjoyable clowngets this much attention.
>>7524665
You pulled that out of context. 'Everyone knows him as(...)' means that everyone who knows him knows that he is the(...).
Insatiability by Witkiewicz
Pornography by Gombrowicz
Autodafe by Canetti
The Year of the Death of Ricardo Reis by Saramago
Nazarin by Galdos
Lost Steps by Carpentier
The Moon and the Bonfires by Pavese
Les Faux-Monnayeurs by Gide
Hourglass by Kis
Moskat Family by Isaac
I am absolutely the only person on /lit/ to ever talk about this book.
>>7524675
I'd respond with "word it better then" but you did it again
>this much attention
One or two offhand mentions each month isn't sufficient to use either the words "much" or "attention"
>>7524694
>Nathaniel West
i own like 4 copies of that book that combines Miss Lonelyhearts with Day of the Locusts
i prefer Miss Lonelyhearts, but he is definitely underloved
AS Byatt - Ragnarok
>>7524713
Miss Lonelyhearts is so fucking good, even Bloom said it's the best english language novella.
>>7524658
Next thing you tell us will be that Orbitowski is good, lol.
>>7524661
Quarantine looks good, thx. Yeah, I (and this board) need to get more into 21st C. lit.
>>7524713
I have a couple copies like that as well. Miss Lonelyhearts is great, but I personally think Day of the Locust is his masterwork. His style is so unique. Describe the banal with a visceral brutality and the violent with banality.
>>7524736
it's way easier than it should be really
once you find a cool publisher, you just check out as many of their books as tickle your interest. Two Dollar Radio in Columbus, OH has a sweet deal going on where you buy one book, get one half off. With shipping, it's basically 20 bucks for two brand new modern books
>>7523970
Me too, too bad there arent a lot of good polish books
>>7524628
I would love to have pynchon, dfw or mcelroy in my library desu
>>7523913
depressing as fuck
>>7523787
>>7524642
Actually the face of polish writing (or at least the one everyone knows) on /lit/ is Lem. Doesn't make sense to picking on someone who hardly gets mentioned.
>>7523972
this is great.
>muh davidic warrior messiah
Anybody?
la coscienza di Zeno - Italo Svevo
Die panne/ die physiker - Durrenmatt
Pharsalia - Lucano (the anti-aenis, best work of the romans with satyricon)
die rauber - schiller
>>7525850
Pretty sure I've mentioned this myself once or twice, but it should be talked about more.
>>7524642
You truly must have no idea what the actual image of Poland is worldwide if you think being associated with even a mediocre writer would be detrimental to it
bumping a highly decent thread
I hardly see Oedipus wept get mentioned here anymore, it's definitely the best of the original meme trilogy
>>7526111
Gass is trash
>>7527846
cant trash the gass
>>7526111
This was never digitalized.
