Is the denigration of memes now a meme? And if so, have we trapped ourselves forever in an infinite spiral of hypocrisy, disparaging memes with a smug irony while basking in the meme-ification of this very same irony? The animalistic sense of belonging to a secret society of sorts, an invisible community perennially backing you, your humor, your very existence, a new social hierarchy in which those who meme are omniscient? Will we be forever doomed to an inner falsehood, a subliminal repression of our desire to meme manifesting itself as Freudian slips, pseudo-memes, and a delusional sense of superiority, believing that we have transcended this hierarchy when we have instead gone full-circle…ever returning to the center of the mandala, the meme, the pepe, the doge? Is the millennial generation forever doomed to the pack mentality? Lusting after the power of society’s backing?
