why bother with capitalization at the beginning of sentences? we have periods. it's great for highlighting names, otherwise it's pointless.

I find it helps me concentrate more on what the author is trying to say, and let's me easily go back through the text and pick up something I would like to read again. Without it, I suspect the eye would be tired far more quickly having less structure to form a natural pause, and reading for long periods of time would be more difficult and distracting.
