Anyone read Animal Farm? I just finished the book and wanted to discuss it with you all!

My favorite quote: "Some animals are more equal than others." It gave me chills.
>>
Many years ago, as a kid. After I've read 1984.

i always freaked out when they started walking upright.. i had the distinct feeling and realization that we were no better than these pigs.. i had a nightmare that night of being surrounded by pigs, actually.
>>
>>7491574
Thought it was a pretty obvious criticism of the Soviet Union and frankly wasn't that interesting or good.
>>
>>7491595
Whenever I eat bacon (which is every day haha bacon is amazing) I joke that I'm avenging the deaths of Boxer, Snowball, and all the other victims of the pig army.

Good book. It's a bit of a slippery slope fallacy though.
>>
I read the whole thing in one sitting back in high school. Eh.
>>
>>7491574
Tfw i don't think anyone will read this. but I like animal farm but like 1984 more
>>
>>7491632
I don't understand how it could be fallacy when it's basically just outlining the progression of the Soviet Union.

This rises the question, is communism bad? or is it just that a dictatorship is a bi-product of communism so its bad?

I started it last week and have only gotten halfway through it so far, but I like what I've read. Reminds me of Red Alert.

Huge fan of Orwell but I don't see what the big deal is about this one. It's a good early high school read. But then when you're ready read 1984, which is an actual masterpiece. I really don't get why those two works are always held up together.

Also just breeze through his collected essays, two favorites that come to mind are The Atom Bomb and You (in this one Orwell coins the phrase "Cold War") and his essay on Charles Dickens, which is on point.

Only other Orwell I've read is Coming Up For Air, which is a carbon copy of Babbit. It's okay.

Unregulated leadership is bad. Overthrowing the idea of property will lead to some bloodshed.
/lit/ is full of commie shills so they won't discuss communism seriously ever.

It's not funny, it's distressing.

>Animal Farm

This book emotionally scarred me as a 12 yr old boy. BOXER NO, NO BOXER DONT GO WITH THE MAN IN THE VAN. BOXER PLEASE NO.

It also makes you enjoy bacon more.
>>
If you look at the big picture, the book is obviously a critique of Stalin. But if you stop looking at it like that, it could be about anywhere. It's actually kinda scary how many similarities you can draw between the book and many western european countries.
So maybe it's not a literary masterpiece, but it's still really neat. If you want to get super depressed about the future of your country, read 1984. Since Animal Farm is satire and all the characters are animals, it's kinda hard for it to be very dark or sad.
1984 is more depressing because it's easier to relate to.
