If you want a more nuanced look at war, I'd recommend Homage to Catalonia by George Orwell. Orwell gets some shit, mostly by people who've only read 1984 or disagree with him politically, but some of his other works are legitimately great. Homage to Catalonia goes into great depths exploring the psychology of stalemate situations. Among my best reads this year.
