All your books are destroyed in a fire.
How do you go about rebuilding your collection?
Buy everything that was burned?
You already read them, just start over buying stuff you haven't read.
Equal parts new and old?
Be honest you motherfuckers.
Download it back
The patrician thing to do is what some Muslim scholars did when their libraries were burned down--transcribe from memory all the destroyed books in your library.
Buy the ones I was most fond of/most read but rebuy them with a mix of newspapers books.
Probablykill myself

You dont keep a list of the books you own?

I'd re-buy my specialist collection, because I use those for research.
General classics I'd re-buy in fine editions.

Send my anonymous apology to the library I stole them from in the first place.

NO YOU NIGGER HES ASKING IF YOU EVEN REPLACE THEM OR IF THATS PRETENTIOUS BECAUSE YOU ALREADY READ THEM SO UR JUST TRYING TO LOOK COOL IN FRONT OF YOUR FRENDS CUZ U HAVE THE RIGHT BOOKS
I usually give books I've read away, so if a housefire destroys them I'd just have to get the "to read" books back which are listed on goodreads anyway
Keeping your old books (apart from expensive good editions) is only for show-offs
Probably be a lot happier, because then I'd have an excuse to not stress over ignoring my backlog.

>Keeping your old books (apart from expensive good editions) is only for show-offs
This is absolutely absurd. I still have most good books I've read, because I take thorough notes and mark things. Obviously not every book works in this way, but having a continued vivid memory of literature it's almost necessary to take notes and revisit. I've been reading for 20 years and things I read as a teenager would be a blur to me if I didn't have them to reference, formatted in a way I have refined to cue my memory.
Reading without taking notes is an awful idea if books take up any relevant place in your life.
I rebuy as non penguin translations

I have hundreds of books. I don't keep them to show off because nobody cares. I keep them because it's easy and I'd get no money if I sold them.
