The book I tried to read was Brave New World because it was the first book in the /lit/ starter kit.

I'm never going to be a reader, am I?

what was hard for you to understand in brave new world? is english not your first language?
>>
While reading IJ I was averaging 50 pages and hour. Most stuff I sit at 60 to 80 pages/hour. 60 is honestly the most you should be getting. If you're getting over 60 you should be rereading the material (which we all ought to be doing anyways regardless of pages/hours).

When I was ten:
>reading all day every day
>those shitty goosebummps books, reading multiple a day
>reading those Redwall book one-a-day
>in 5th grade get tested and score highest reading level in entire school

In eight grade my parents finally got us satellite television.
>stop reading, almost entirely because enchanted by the glowing idiot-box
>realized what was happening but didn't care because distracted by yonder glow

After graduating high school I tried to start getting back into reading properly. Really got back on track for a while but the urge only come every once in a while few and far between.

Last year I was out cycling helmet-less, and a crashed and suffered pretty bad head trauma, got diffuse axonal injuries out of it. Now my attention span is abysmal, and my memories fall away entirely in about a two or three month period without regular reinforcement.

But I'm trying to get back on track, I really am. I'm reading Lord of the Rings and trying to get good at taking notes so that I don't forget the whole damn book a year from now. No Country for Old Men after this.

No Country for Illiterate Men, really.

Because not reading would put my soul at hazard. And I won't do that.

There is a part in Brave New World at the beginning where it's just random dialogue that doesn't make any sense

Lol, I remember reading Nietzsche as a teen and thinking I could tackle other "hard" philosophers

Tried reading some Hegel and got my dick smashed off and physically REEEEE'd and threw the book I had taken out of the library against the wall in impotent rage.

This is basically what happened when I tried to read War and Peace for a thesis in middle school. Literally the most boring and dense book I've ever read.

i don't think i've met anyone so divorced from reality, no adolescent who hasnt read War & Peace? where the fuck do you live with this ideal land of well read children? I have YET to meet a person who has read an entire dickens book other than my family and maybe two or three individuals besides, let alone war and peace. or even know what war and peace is.

I read 20-30 pages in an hour depending on the book. This goes down to 5 pages if it has hard to understand content.

Some people say you get faster as you read. I try to read consistently but nothing really changes.
My friend can read 40-50 in an hour. And he reads less than I do.

Reading slowly is not much of a bother but when you have little time to read it can be troublesome.

I'm a slow reader but I only ever get to read while commuting nowadays, it fucking sucks, I liked to be able to spend all day reading and now I'm lucky if I get comfy reading at all.... Kill me.

The movie IS good, I'll admit. The Coen brothers are good at what they do and I definitely won't be able to un-Bardem Javier Bardem from Chigurh, he was just so good at being a . . . uh, like Ed Tom puts it in the preface, he's just good at playing that "living prophet of destruction."

Plus, Carla Jean sure is pretty.

It is customary for Danish students to finish their elementary school with a thesis on Hegel.

Never heard of that happening outside of England. In England we either write on Locke, Hume, or Plato once we've started secondary school.
