I liked it desu.
it's ok
it's better if you read lots of academic texts
>>7438340
it's worse if you read all the stuff danielewski's ripping off
>>7438345
For example...?
>>7438345
Waiting for examples.

>leaves blows
I see what you've done her OP, but I wonder whether maybe playing on 'house' wouldn't be more appropriate since leaves isn't the actual item but rather the object of the preposition. Unless you're advocating an appositional use, in which case hmmm yes interesting direction you've taken with your critique

dick
>>7438620
Simply reiterates the puerile level of the OP. Really haven't moved up any rungs on the ladder of eloquence here

BUMPING FOR AN EXPLICATION

I think it's something to do with the compression of the image

Yikes
First of all, you missed like *all* of the philosophical and meaningful literary references. Like all of them. Second of all, I really don't think the phrase "ripping off" really applies to cases of explicit homage. Third of all, Umberto Eco sucks and you should feel back for liking him.
>>7439789
what were the philosophical references you assume i missed out on?
>>7439789
>dude it's just like super deep. went waay over your head bro :^)
>>7439841
there were oblique references to Heidegger in Broom of the System but i felt like i was able to enjoy that novel just fine without having to read Heidegger. also i doubt reading Heidegger would make me enjoy House of Leaves any more than i already have. because it's poorly written!
was Derrida's philosophy that when you're writing a horror novel you should remind the reader about how scared they should be every second line?
>>7439872
That worked for Lovecraft :^)
>>7439872
top kek my friend
>>7439872
It wasn't really a horror novel. Being mad at House of Leaves because it isn't scary is like being mad at Heart of Darkness because there weren't any good romances.
>>7439928
wrong it was about a spooky haunted house
To be honest I've been shitting on House of Leaves for a long time and I haven't even read it :^)
>>7438581
But how can you claim to know what is or is not appropriate for him in that moment? You have no conception of his self. You do not bear his dasein. Prescriptive instructions like that which you gave him, and that which I am now giving you, are empty and meaningless because we are all of us individuals, and as such none of us can ever truly connect in any way. The truth of conversation is that we are all talking to a brick wall, and it is only our own madness that allows it to talk back.

you and 99% of /lit/. this board is memes and hivemind.
I thought Only Revolutions was much better and higher quality than House of Leaves.
I can't sincerely comment on House of Leaves because that shit bored me to tears but it's possibly poking fun at boring essays, journals, etc., so it was probably supposed to be boring.
Really it just felt too gimmicky. Skipping through a book is fun when it's just beaners dicking around like in Rayuela, but I didn't care too much for the goings on of House of Leaves. It's like Lolita, the writing itself is interesting but the plot is so boring I cannot enjoy the prose at its fullest
