Yates is nice. I like his essays, except for the astrological bullshit and the thing about triangles. Per Amica Silentia Lunae and his essay on Blake come to mind.

100 years of solitude

I dig the dude's style, nothing is rushed but he pushes out huge amounts of story in a very short time, and everything is so well thought-out and complete. Everyone is a distinct character.
The only problem I have with it is that some sentences get a little too purple.
>>
>>7419626
I like The Razor's Edge too. Might pick it up again.
>>
The illuminatus! Trilogy. I see people try to start threads with it but one has much to say about it apparently. I personally thought it was great. But I was 18 when I read it and I was pretty impressionable back then. Maybe that's why

The Oresteia.

Anything by Albert Camus, more specifically "the stranger".
>>
>>7419599
General academic nonfiction. I don't mean textbooks but those books by those interdisclinary thinkers who could just pontificate about anything and make it interesting and inspiring like Carls Jung and Sagan or Terence mckenna. Anything by Douglas Adams. I understand he isn't quite literary enough for most people on here but I thought hitchiker's guide and the dirk gently novels were all worth reading. And a lot of comedic books like John dies at the end and it's sequel. Or a lot of comedian's books. I have a collection of all these names and topics and never get to talk about them with anyone.

I see Gaddis threads from time to time.
>>

That's exactly the shit I'm glad /lit/ never talks about.
>>
>>7419799
You people all read PKD but nobody on here ever talks about carl jung. Why is it that you can accept so much thought from gnostic and platonian thought like that and still turn down jung?
And why not read sagan if you're even remotely interested in space and the potentialities of the human future in it? It often comes up in literature
Everyone on this site has a problem with douglas adams and nobody has ever made that point eloquently. They just call it "Shitty" a few dozen times and that's that. And John dies at the end had me laughing my ass off several times enough to keep me powering through all 500 pages in each novel in two total sittings. What's the problem here?
>>
>>7419810
>And John dies at the end had me laughing my ass off several times
Yes, it's funny, but it's not a good book. What the hell is there about it that you could discuss?
>>
>>7419889
Oh I get it now. You people just didn't gobble as many tryptamines in your early adulthood as I did.

It's odd how no one talks about Greene considering the Catholic population.
I've had Heart of the Matter on my shelf for years and never actually picked it up. There is always something else.
>>
>>7419599
I read and enjoyed The Quiet American by Greene. I might try this one out too. I've heard good things about it.

People here are rigid.
>>
>>7419784
People hate Adams because he won a poll on reddit that got spammed a lot here.
>>
>>7420016
He'd be hated even if that poll had never been made.
>>
>>7419789
Gaddis has received a lot more conversation lately.
>>
>>7419599
muh nigga, anything Graham Greene. Currently reading a collection of his weird short stories. The constant Catholic guilt gets a bit tiring.

I never see Breece D'J Pancake or Kjell Askildsen talked about, and they're two of my favourite short story writers desu. Problem is Pancake never released a book (there's a posthumous collection though) and Askildsen only has like 20 or so stories translated into English.

I've seen Peter Matthiesen discussed here a few times but mainly for The Snow Leopard.
This book is under-appreciated, probably because the Carribean dialect takes some getting used to, but once I started figuring out which character was which, I couldn't put the book down.
