Kevin Costner's new graphic novel The Explorers Guild is really good for like a 12-15 year old boy. Boy specifically, it's like an introduction to the idea of the masculine idealized adventure of the 19th and 20th century. Really strongly recommend it. It has gently handled and introduced philosophical elements, an engaging thought provoking and real-world applicable story(i.e. not like harry potter - kids will learn valuable lessons from this book).

This, and any of the rest of D'Aulaires books. The Norse one is great, as is their biography of abraham lincoln (excepting the fact that they cut out his assassination)

Things get a little cleaned up for kids, but seriously, those books have given me a solid grounding in classical myth that has followed me most of my life.

this or La Fontaine's fables
or a kids adaptation of some classics/Greek mythology

Dumas, R. L. Stevenson, Arthur Conan Doyle or Tolkien are typical recommendations.
I'd also add Voltaire or Chesterton.

I've never read this. Is it good for an adult to read?

For what it's worth, I really enjoyed Winnie the Pooh when I read it at the age of twenty (I'm twenty-six now).

>>

It's the first book I ever read, I learned many things from it that many years later I still take to heart. I highly recommend it. It's a pretty easy read too, comparable to The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, but The Little Prince is filled with fantasy instead.

He is 10. Up until now he read typical kids books like David Walliams and diary of a wimpy kid. I want to introduce him to slightly more mature books without scaring him off, he really likes to read.
>>

It's worth it. Definitely.

Although I have to admit I enjoyed it a lot more as an adult than as a child.

This motherfucker.

I don't care if it's 700+ pages, it has illustrations and is basically German surrealism written by a man who used to draw cartoons of a young Adolf Hitler.

It's funny, wild and likely drug fuelled - a great read for weird little shits. Just read the plot synopsis if you don't believe me.
>>

Good choice, it's really a great series of books

It gets more mature and more "meta" with each book, vastly underrated
>>

The Little Prince is the best
also
Alice in Wonderland
Holes
The Hobbit
Because of Winn-Dixie
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time

Those are my favorite children books
