He didn't inspire them as much as his writings were adopted by certain groups within these ideologies, each with its own interpertation of him.
i'm more and more convinced that he faked his insanity and went into cocoon-mode as soon as public interest became certain. the idea becomes less grotesque if we assume that his relatives and close friends were part of the conspiracy and contributed to the myth. that way he could let the work be endlessly re-interpreted and distributed into all kinds of channels without settling the case himself.
