49 - hey not bad!
Especially considering my overall taste in literature generally doesn't fall in line with what's really popular on lit

I do love Pynchon though. Anyone who's anyone loves Pynchon

Only the bible so far (not sure why that would be considered a top 100). I just got into reading books like these. I have a bunch on standby that I plan on starting as soon as I finish this Sam Harris book.
>>
>>7378479
I loved it, but I have no idea why or how it's as critically well received as it is, seems like a super niche book to me without much of what one generally considers "literary"

Damn, I've read 71. Plus, I started a bunch in there and dropped after a bit, so I didn't count those. But really, most of that is fucking entry level. And so skewed to the anglo side, the only french writers in there are Proust and Camus? Seriously?

What are your favourites from the list then?
>>
>>7378756
I liked the beginning, I lost interest in the second part.

>What are your favourites from the list then?
The Trial, Brothers Karamazov, Moby Dick, Metamorphosis, Notes from the Underground, The Stranger, Hunger, Pale Fire, Kafka on the Shore, The Sun Also Rises, etc. Lots of great stuff. I've liked almost all of the books I've read from the list, Savage Detectives actually maybe the least, don't know why.

Why aren't Miss Lonelyhearts of Day of the Locust on the list? Even Bloom said that Lonelyhearts is the best english language novella.
>>
>>7377744
I'm missing like 10~
It's a really basic chart, I gotta say.
>>
>>7378479
I almost agree, but I get the feeling it would have been much better if P+V's translation hadn't been generally awful. Although it's possible the original writing is awful too, I guess.

>how much praise is heaped on 20th century latin lit here

lol nobody knows anything about latin lit here. It's always the same threads mentioning Borges-Garcia Marquez-Bolanio-Cortazar, and maybe something else like Vargas Llosa every now and then. Which is all that ended up on the list, I guess.
>>
>>7379126
I seldom see Cortázar discussed here outside of Rayuela, which is a shame. The guy was a top short-story writer, up there with Borges IMO

55 on first list, 62 on second

Actually read more than I though 41.

On another note this is a horrible horrible list is the harry potter seriously included? Is this a fucking joke? not only that but the it's better than works such as Grapes of Wrath, Portrait of the artist, Old Man and the Sea, etc.

Harry Potter are terribly written children's book chalk full of plot holes, horrible prose, elementary school vocabulary, etc.

And this board makes fun of reddit. Unbelievable

I'd really love recommendations for what else to read out of this list. Hoping to cop 20 or 30 books to start next year over thanksgiving. Going to book stores tomorrow and I'm sure I'll run into online sales over the week(end). Not feeling something like Infinite Jest right now. Give me something a little more obscure off the list.
