Mediocre thinker.
DUDE OF MONTREAL LMAO

That would be nice. Finished the essays in Evil and Literature and am now reading his book on eroticism.
Great thinker. I need to read his Summa Atheologica.

What's the problem?

>Great thinker

He along with Blanchot placed most of the problems that would be continued by Foucault, Derrida, Baudrillard etc. His think of community is an actual debate followed by Jean-Luc Nancy, Roberto Esposito, Agamben.

Don't even place him on the same level as Blanchot, you massive pleb. BLanchot is more influential on Nancy and Agamben than Bataillehack. You can read those thinkers, essentially, without knowing Bataille
Never read anything by him but Story of the Eye, but it was so damn good. Easily one of my favourite books - fappable and interesting at once. Simone is the best waifu.

So quite a bit of useless shit.

Also read Blue of Noon.
I don't think he's a mediocre thinker. His centrality to Foucault, who's one of the most, if not the most, cited thinker in the last century is enough to validate him on that front.
If you want to trace the genealogy of Discipline and Punish, it's essential to read The Trial of Gilles De Rais, who was the apex serial killer and children-eater of all time.
I think Bataille was also an influence, or at least a useful confluence for Badiou's insightful work on Radical Evil.
That said, his creative writing is where his brilliance shines brightest. No book has pulled the rug from under my feet as much as L'Abbe C.
He is Nietzsche's most faithful interpreter, and the best philosopher of the concept of chance.
"Death is in principle contrary to chance. Chance is still sometimes linked to its contrary: thus death can be the mother of chance."
Fun fact re: Bataille. Without him ferreting The Arcades Project away in the library of France, it probably would have been destroyed by the Nazis and their Vichy collaborators.
