Why do you guys hate this book so much? Just read it and it's a masterpiece.
It's a meme to hate it
It is also a meme book, so there's that
We should sit back and wait for a justification of that statement I would imagine.

I've never read any DFW but anyone who thinks that handkerchiefs/bananas are cool has to be a hack. 4chan tricked me into listening to that shit potato woman meme album and I WILL NOT BE FOOLED AGAIN BY READING THIS MEME BOOK!

It's quality to hype ratio is way off. So while the book isn't as objectively bad as say My Angsty Vampire Boyfriend, the conceit by its author and fanbase that it is canonical literature allows it a debasement of form and subject far beyond what even the most oily fantasy fetish porn is capable of.

It's not bad. I don't even hate it.
But it's impossible to deny that Infinite Jest is that one book that people with average intelligence read to feel smart.

It's my favorite book, but I can understand why some people hate it. It's not for everyone. It's also a meme to hate it, hype machine, etc.
it's simultaneously smug, pretentious and whiny. written by a man who lived in a fucking bubble spewing basement-dwelling morality and masturbatory introspection. a constipated brick of defeatism.
Memes are life so is this book, amirite?

laughed way too hard at that one.
