Is there a book (fiction) that deals with the issue of internet or media addiction? I know about Infinite Jest of course but it is such a massive and maximalist work as I understand; it would be nice to find something a little more focussed
Fahrenheit 451 funnily enough.
Also Brave New World.
Basically starter-kit level books deal with this a lot.

Well I mean more as a personal issue, not in the context of social satire.

The book I'm writing features a protagonist who's become totally desensitized to gore and porn from browsing that stuff 24/7. May the beginning of the story he basically realizes he's exhausted all of the internet's charms and goes outside.

Bad book OP don't do it.

Bleeding Edge somewhat. I didn't really like it though since it read a lot like an episode of The Big Bang Theory

How the fuck is it anything like Big Bang Theory? Unless the glaring glut of product placement felt as undignified as suffering through the all too frequent commercial breaks of television.

>read a lot like an episode of The Big Bang Theory
I already hate it for this 20 pages in, dont know if i should even continue

It's the extreme use of techno babble coupled with the pop culture references and silly character archetypes. I didn't like it.
