Making it harder to get discharged for being trans
Navy, Marine Corps raise authority for trans separations
Lt. Cmdr. Ed Early, a Navy spokesperson, confirmed on Thursday the change for both military services to the Washington Blade and said it took effect Wednesday.

“Effective immediately, separations of Navy and Marine Corps personnel with a diagnosis or history of gender dysphoria, who identify themselves as transgender, or who have taken steps to externalize the condition must be forwarded to the Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Manpower and Reserve Affairs for decision,” Early said.
...
The Navy Department can alter the policy for both the Navy and the Marine Corps because the civilian leadership has jurisdiction over both military services.

Positive words from the Secretary of Defence
Remarks by Secretary Carter at a Troop Event in Kandahar, Afghanistan

Press Operations
Secretary of Defense Ash Carter
February 22, 2015
Q: Mr. Secretary, thank you so much for being here. I'm Lieutenant Commander Jesse Ehrenfeld. It means the world to me that in your first week on the job you came to spend the time with us, to thank us for what we're doing, so that -- I just want to thank you for that. Quick question for you: What are your thoughts on transgender service members serving in an austere environment like this here in Kandahar?

SEC. CARTER: I come at that from a fundamental starting point. It's not something I've studied a lot since I became secretary of defense. But I come at this kind of question from a fundamental starting point, which is that we want to make our conditions and experience of service as attractive as possible to our best people in our country.
And I'm very open-minded about -- otherwise about what their personal lives and proclivities are, provided they can do what we need them to do for us. That's the important criteria. Are they going to be excellent service members?
And I don't think anything but their suitability for service should preclude them.

White house shows their support
White House Expresses Support for Transgender Military Service
SPARTA Renews Call for a Comprehensive, Department-Wide Review

Washington, DC – One day after Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter indicated support for ending the Defense Department’s de facto ban on transgender military service, the White House expressed agreement in a statement from White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest. Speaking to reporters at a White House briefing, Earnest said, “The President agrees with the sentiment that all Americans who are qualified to serve should be able to serve, and for that reason, we here at the White House welcome the comments of the Secretary of Defense.” Carter had responded to a question about DoD’s policy barring transgender individuals from military service by saying, “I don’t think anything but their suitability for service should preclude them [from serving].”
"To those familiar with how the military chain of command works, the Commander-in-Chief's intent could not be clearer,” said Allyson Robinson, former Army captain and SPARTA Director of Policy. “President Obama has done more to ensure transgender Americans are treated fairly and with respect than all those who've previously held the office combined. Good subordinate leaders take their commander's intent and execute – they get the job done. That's what SPARTA's transgender members, their commanders, and their families are looking to Secretary Carter to do now. It’s time to change this policy."

This explains why so many trans people join the military.

Transgender troops policy change raises many questions
When Dwayne Villanueva joined the Army at 17, he thought it would help to overcome his nagging desire to become a woman.

“It’s a hypermasculine environment and I thought that by joining the military it would make me more masculine,” Villanueva recalled in a recent interview. “I thought joining the military would help suppress those feelings or take them away, as far as wanting to be a female.

They also make me cut my hair and dress like a boy at work ;-;

So they're making you pay for hrt? I thought that it should have been covered like any other medication.
I'm a LCPL in the Marines, waiting till the DOD order's ended to start trying to get hrt for myself.
>>
>>6073392
They aren't making me, I just went and did it myself a little over 2 years ago because i couldn't wait anymore. Didn't tell anyone about it until the time when they stopled giving us the boot for being trans. I know quite a few of us on HRT in the military, actually

Gotcha. So are you going to try getting it on your insurance soon?
And the most I've met so far is a few girls who were bisexual, never met anyone trans.

My brother joined the military at 22. He did 6 years service. He just came out to me at 29. I don't think he plans on transitioning but he said he used the military as a way to be more "male". He did a lot of masculine stuff in his twenties to try and repress those feelings.

>There's an estimated 15,500 transgender personnel in the United States Armed Forces currently serving in silence.

What's this figure based off of?
>>
>>6084571
Based off the number of veterans who come out as trans after ending their service I believe.
>>6084533
What do you mean obvious? I'm wearing makeup in this picture but without I'm 100% guy mode. No hormones yet.
>>
>>6084600

I meant the Facebook posts and shit.
>>
>>6078792

I'm not sure what he was like as a child because I am 5 years younger. I am transgender MtF. I came out to my friends first then him. It was weird because after I told him I was transgender and planning on transitioning he told me he had felt that way his entire life too and only told a few of his friends online. He never expressed it to me before I came out to him.

His hair is quite thinned out now (hes 30) and his body is pretty masculine. I think he's just gonna try to take it to his grave. Really sad because since I am transitioning I feel like I am rubbing it in his face because I pass pretty well at 24.
>>
>>6086116

That's really sad. I hope he finds happiness somehow.

>His hair is quite thinned out now (hes 30) and his body is pretty masculine.
Hair transplants are pretty advanced nowadays, and estrogen plus a decent workout regimen will give her at least a much more feminine body than she currently has. Don't let her become one of those 60-year-old married closet cases who randomly blows their brains out or upends their whole family's life to transition.

Bring it up. Help her out with your personal experience. Be a good little sister to your big sis.
>>
>>6089875
>>6091670

Thank you guys. I will try. She doesn't seem to like talking about it very much, I think it hits a really sore spot. She was self medding on HRT for a few months but had to move.

She is a disabled veteran and incapable of doing much physical activity now. Got injured in Iraq. I think she wants to move to Oregon so maybe will continue the transition there.

:[
>>
>>6091802

Jeez. That's exactly why I didn't want to join the military when I was a lot more suicidal. The chances of dying are too low if that's what you want, to risk it. Is she at least getting her "100%"? I think it's a disability payout or pension, I'm not sure. My business professor is a Vietnam war veteran who uses his military jargon from time to time and is starting up a non-profit that helps veterans. He's helped some people get those payouts, one of them was a WWII veteran who somehow still wasn't getting anything. He also got our congressman to change one old guy's dishonorable discharge to an honorable one (the offense was I think spitting gum out onto the ground and offending standards of cleanliness [not sure if that's the military's term for it]). A discharge sounds extreme for that, but I don't know much about the military, much less the way it was 40 years ago.

The problem is I don't know if he helps people who don't see him in person, and we're in NJ.

Trillions of American citizens are gay.

I should prob just ask a recruiter

Yeah, the whole seeking refuge in hypermasculinity is a common one, though another one I don't see brought up that often is that not everyone of us even realizes we're trans that early. You'd be surprised at how much a disconnect there can be, especially if one lacks enough information to even know to look for information to know better.

That is true. Every military is basicly built on weak manhoods needing to be proven somehow. And what better way than with all those toys and action? They will whip you into shape and make you forget what a pussy you really are.
>>
>>6094345
>Yeah, the whole seeking refuge in hypermasculinity is a common one, though another one I don't see brought up that often is that not everyone of us even realizes we're trans that early. That can litterally go on for a lifetime. People get really good at supressing shit and trying to conform to their surroundings. Closets within closets...

I had no connections to my feelings. They were horrible feminine things that could not be let out. First time I had sex with another guy I drove out of town an hour away where I knew nobody would know what we did. Same thing first time I dressed up in real female clothing. Felt like I had murdered someone and needed to get rid of the body. Didnt even make the connection. I knew I did it, but it felt like I had fapped to child porn or something. It was so horrible it could not even allow myself to admit it to myself. It's like you are split into a normal side and a deviant side that occationally gets out when nobody is around. Followed by immediate deep shame.

There's nothing to survive when most people who deploy are barely going beyond the wire or placed in active combat roles, idiots.

It's one thing to just not like the military, that's fine you're entitled to that but if you have to resort to blatant lies, misinformation, and self-delusion just to get your get your point across, you're a dumb cunt.

Rally the few functional brain cells in that little skull of yours and try to put forth some effort in at least knowing what you're talking about.

You're not a slave, you're fulfilling a contractual obligation in return for a variety of benefits. Nobody places you under duress to sign that paper. You do it of your own volition, so you're expected to fulfill your end of it.

Even then, you're given multiple chances during the course of your vocational training to jump ship if you feel like the military just isn't for you and it's encouraged. You probably get treated worse at your shitty little wage slave job than the average military member gets treated

I doubt the military would take you anyways, you fat bovine-looking piece of garbage.

Im trans and I currently serve in the USAF. I joined because I was in denial and I wanted to make my family proud but I came to terms that I would never be happy unless I transitioned recently.
