We're talking about an 18 year old ftm on hormones that took 5th place in a 3A high school track event (anything below 5A is a tiny school and not competitive for most scholarships)

There's not a ton of skill involved in running track. Sure you have to know how to run well, but it's mostly just your physique. Even as a trans kid, she's a good bit taller than the other girls. That alone is a big advantage.

Okay, I'm conflicted. In high school, I was easily in the upper 5% in terms of athleticism, with only a handful of men above me (and even then we were better at different things). I was only 6'3" back then, too.
After about 1.5 years of HRT, I noticed my strength drop fast. Right now, about 90% of men are probably stronger than me, while 20% of women are stronger than me. Heck, my spouse who is a tiny 5'2" and has never had T, is almost as strong as me and has overpowered me before (then again, this is the same person who likes to show off their strength to guy friends).
I'm definitely not on par with men or women, unfortunately. Hormones are really freaking wild.
