I thought it's all about a critical window in brain development which involves genetics, epigenetics, maternal hormones and antibodies all working together to shift some delicate balance. I don't know much about trans/gender dysphoria, but now I wonder if even that could have been selected for in our evolutionary past (just a thought not a claim).
