Really? I much prefer the directors cuts + EoE, I feel thats the ending that he would have done for the show if the funding hadn't been cut. Choosing to abuse the budget at points, the changes in the script on the go, the new things that came out of the limitations are more unique than anything you could pre design. I dunno, after reading the manga Im convinced that without Hideaki Annos vision- NGE is a shallow mecha anime with no depth at all. The mangas lack of resolutions or even themes as far as I can tell along with the simplification of the rebuilds kind of supports this (I blame 3.0 on Sadamoto). Ill take the ending that has a coherent story, is entirely animated, and gives a real resolution to all of the characters. Hideaki Anno tells stories with the authority of a divine being.
