Naw, not really as a job, I do it as a hobby still. I do a lot of work for friends for money here and there but in the end I'm just doing it because I like it.
I did work at a garage for a short while but its not fun, its very different to do you hobby as a job. I've spoken with a lot of mechanics and a lot of guys on /o/ and they all felt the same way.
To be honest I would love to open my own shop though, it's always been a dream of mine and literally all my friends. I doubt that plan will ever get much traction behind it though.
When I've got space and money I'm going to start buying and selling cars though.

I had thought about doing mechanic work and came to the same conclusion. Hobbies can get stomped out into drudgery pretty easily when working life forces them on you. Opening a shop sounds like it could be a lot of fun, though. Restomods? Customs? I really want to end up working in R&D on the auto manufacture front.

Yeah exactly, a lot of people have often followed their hobbies into a career but it fast becomes a staple of life and no longer a fun thing to do.
Yeah man, I work at my uncles shop some days for some cash in hand, its really rather nice now. Lots of regular customers I get to mingle with all day, the community here is really hilarious, it's like something out of a sitcom. Hopefully one day I'll open my own, probably be like a bike shop and parts store, I like to restore bikes too but generally I like to just work on decent ones and get them running right.
I'd also very much like a job spraying cars or something, I've got a strong passion for that, really good at it too. Painted a lot of bikes for friends now to a really good standard, I often get people asking me to do full resprays with a local bike lot I hang out with. Its just so nice to take old bits, clean them up, prep them and paint them. It looks sooooo new after.
R&D would probably be a really cool job, you'd be on the front line of all the new tech too.
